Team Steve’s Story:
Posted: September, 2012
Team Steve was formed in 2008, with a mission to create a community of supporters for Steve Stroh upon his diagnosis of multiple myeloma. Steve was a man that not only supported his community professionally as a dedicated 25-year veteran of the Edina Police Department, but also through his family’s personal connections. Steve succumbed to myeloma on August 25, 2012, and Team Steve continues his legacy in the fight to find to a cure.
From the day of his diagnosis, Steve courageously fought multiple myeloma, while always embracing those around him. He made a point of getting to know his doctors, nurses and numerous caregivers on a personal level, and continued to embrace his strong family connection to Benilde-St. Margaret High School.
Steve and his wife, Caroline, first met while attending Benilde-St. Margaret High School – where Caroline is currently a staff member. Their daughter, Shannon, also attended Benilde-St. Margaret and following her parents’ example, built a community of supporters among her classmates. When Shannon was in high school, the MMRF Race for Research: Twin Cities 5K Walk/Run almost always fell on the Sunday following Shannon’s Homecoming Dance. The Stroh family annually invited a large group of Shannon’s friends to sleep over following the dance and participate in the race the next morning in support of Team Steve.
This year, Shannon and her high school classmates are now enrolled in their first year of college and those who cannot make it to the Twin Cities event are representing Team Steve, with its signature orange bandanas, at the Ann Landers MMRF Race for Research: Chicago 5K Walk/Run. Team Steve will also be the beneficiary of Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School Homecoming Mass offering on September 27, 2012.
The MMRF is proud and honored to recognize the Stroh family and Team Steve for their continued dedication to raising myeloma awareness and fighting to find a cure for multiple myeloma.
