Independent Event Marc Mayer Memorial Golf Tournament
Posted: May, 2012
Brian Mayer is preparing for the ninth annual Marc Mayer Memorial Golf Tournament, in honor of his father, Marc, who lost his battle with multiple myeloma in 1996. Brian, an only child, credits his father with inspiring his lifelong love of sports, from attendance at Giants and Mets games to introducing him to golf. Marc was an active dad, regularly volunteering for coaching and scouting activities despite his busy Wall Street job.
The fun filled memorial golf tournament day, ending with a dinner and awards ceremony, has raised significant funds for the MMRF over the years. 2012 is shaping up to be the best year yet. The event will take place at a new venue, the Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, New Jersey, and Brian is hoping for a good weather forecast after a last minute rescheduling of the 2011 tournament due to Hurricane Irene.
Brian and his wife Heather actively involve their son Morgan and daughter Ava and use the event as a lesson in charitable giving and the power of a family to make a difference. Brian’s mother Florence and her husband Steven Wolf support and attend each year along with many other family members and friends. Close family friends Ray and Mike Bolling come to share bittersweet memories about the time when Marc was too sick to play but still rode along in the cart with them all.
Brian is Managing Partner and Co-Founder of RMR Wealth Management,an Investment Advisory firm based in New York City. Brian and his Co-Founding partner Philip Rabinovich are longtime sponsors and supporters of the event. Andrew Guzzetti, Managing Partner of DLG Wealth Management, has also been a significant contributor to the event for many years.
Brian was in college when his father began treatments. Marc’s medical team included Dr. Jagganath and Dr. Siegel, who are both MMRC members and frequent contributors to MMRF events; they have both attended and been honored at the Mayer tournament in past years. Brian and Heather have attended MMRF signature events including the MMRF Fall Gala and this year’s MMRF Laugh for Life: New York. Brian recently remarked, “It’s been amazing to watch how the organization has grown and transformed over the years.”
The tenth annual Marc Mayer Memorial Golf Tournament will be held this year.
