The MMRF supports innovative research efforts in the most promising areas of multiple myeloma research through several grant-making programs. The MMRF accepts applications from U.S.-based and international non-profit institutions and universities. Program guidelines and applications are available approximately 6-8 weeks prior to the submission deadline.

MMRF Research Grant Awards

Significant advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology and molecular biology involved in multiple myeloma have identified numerous putative molecular targets for therapeutic intervention. The MMRF welcomes proposals on any and all multiple myeloma related topics to the traditional Research Grant Award Programs.

• Senior Research Awards: The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) supports investigators with more than five years of experience in blood cancer research. The goal of this initiative is to accelerate the development of therapeutic approaches for myeloma and may include proposals in basic science, validation, or translation research.

• Research Fellow Awards provide funding to researchers with less than five years experience (post graduate degree) and working under the supervision of a research sponsor. Proposals may request up to $75,000 for one year.

• Validation of Novel Combinations and Novel Compounds Awards: With a multitude of therapeutic options under investigation for multiple myeloma, the ability to identify those that show the most potential in treating the disease is of critical importance. One of the most effective and efficient ways to do this is through pre-clinical validation of targeted single-agent therapies as well as those in innovative, rationally-designed combinations and sequences. The Validation Awards were developed to advance the science of pre-clinical validation in multiple myeloma. Proposals may request up to $100,000 per year for 2 years.

• BIA Award (formerly LEAD): The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) seeks proposals for its Biotech Investment Award program (BIA). The goal of this initiative is to drive and accelerate the development of innovative and effective treatments for myeloma. This program is designed to: a) provide resources necessary for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to rapidly test therapeutics in multiple myeloma; and b) to foster collaboration with academic myeloma experts, as needed. BIA aims to remove barriers that limit the development of novel drugs for myeloma. This is a milestone-driven initiative. Payments will be made after successful completion of milestones as outlined in each applicant's proposal.
