Meet Dr. Jeffrey Hyman

Independent Event
UPG Bowling Night

Jeff's Story:

Dr. Jeffrey Hyman has practiced Internal Medicine for more than 20 years at the Treat & Release Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is also the Medical Director for the University Physicians Group (UPG), a multi-specialty medical group of 60 doctors and healthcare professionals with more than 23 locations in Staten Island and Brooklyn, New York.

In the summer of 2011, Dr. Hyman and his colleagues joined together to plan an event to raise money for the MMRF when a colleague’s family connection to multiple myeloma was discovered. “When one of our own office managers told us about her mom's battle with multiple myeloma, it was immediately decided that this was to become our cause." said Dr. Hyman. Wanting to create an opportunity for the physicians and their staff to socialize while raising funds, the group used the MMRF’s Independent Events platform to create and plan a night of bowling.

On August 19th more than 60 people turned out at Rab's Country Lanes in Dongan Hills for the inaugural UPG Bowling Night. One highlight of the evening was the raffle that had been organized by Dr. Hyman and his team. Lucky guests returned home with prize baskets containing everything from snacks and toys to floral arrangements and electronics. The doctors and staff reported having just as much fun tapping their creativity to fill the baskets as those who actually won them.

Dr. Hyman and the University Physicians Group's first Independent Event ended successfully and raised an inspiring $7,500 for the MMRF. Plans for the 2012 UPG event to benefit the MMRF are now underway.
