MMRF Independent Events
Posted: March, 2014
On Saturday, February 22, 2014, Lexi Zisselman, a 12 year old from Manhasset Hills, NY, presented a “Kick” Event at the Hofstra Bubble to benefit the MMRF. Lexi’s Bat Mitzvah Project was a soccer-related fundraiser to honor her grandfather, Isaac, who died of multiple myeloma in 2005. Approximately 275 kids between the ages of six (6) and 18 years old took penalty shots on goalies in order to win several great raffle prizes including a 32” Samsung LCD TV, iPad Mini and Pizza Party.
Over $7,500 was raised to help fund research to fight this deadly disease. Title Sponsors were as follows: Showcase Kitchens (Manhasset), Mr. Jay Appliances (Williston Park), Town Total Health (Melville), Angelina’s Pizzeria & Restaurant (Williston Park), 5 Corners Auto Salon (New Hyde Park), Puma, Cause Marketing Promotions (Westhampton) & Paul Riley Soccer School. A special thanks to Tracy Silverman whose company, MTM Printing (Flushing), prepared the Event Flyer, Poster Boards & Logo.
Lexi’s family has been involved in the “MMRF Laugh for Life Event” for many years and is extremely proud that Lexi has continued with the fundraising tradition. This 1st-of-its-kind Event was covered by several newspapers, soccer organizations & Bat Mitzvah websites and generated publicity to in excess of 50,000 people thru e-mail alone. In the end, the kids had a great time participating in a sport they love and multiple myeloma awareness amongst the younger generation was raised to new heights.
