Meet Jeanie DreyerMMRF Race for Research: The MMRF is proud to have honored Jeanie as 2011's recipient of the Spirit of Hope Award, given at every 5K event to individuals who inspire hope with their perseverance in overcoming personal obstacles such as a cancer diagnosis. Jeanie's Story:Posted September, 2011 On September 17, 2011, Jeanie and a team of family and friends participated for the second time in the annual MMRF Race for Research: Boston 5K Walk/Run. Jeanie met her goal of raising $10,000 for this event. Busy mom of four kids in school (two sets of twins!), Jeanie was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in June 2010 and underwent a stem cell transplant in November 2010. After recovering from that phase of treatment, she has a newfound appreciation for her natural ability to embrace life and its challenges as well as the gift of her family and friends. Jeanie is feeling great and enjoying being in remission. One of her favorite ways to celebrate her current strength, happiness and health is by hitting the road for a long run. Jeanie participates in MMRF events across a wide spectrum. In July, 2011, Jeanie and close friends organized a neighborhood yard sale with baked goods to benefit the MMRF. Then, in August, Jeanie, her husband Mike, her brother Rob, and her lifelong friend Suzi hosted a Night of Hope for friends and family at Giorgio's Ristorante and Meze Bar in Milford, NH, near her home. The event included a silent auction, entertainment and a special dinner menu. » Learn more about planning your own Independent Event. Jeanie, Mike and Suzi have created their own team, Jeanie’s FEAT, within the MMRF PowerTeam and have participated in events like the Bay State Marathon and others through the MMRF Run/Bike/Tri Your Own Race Program. Jeanie went on to run the Boston Marathon as a member of the MMRF team in April 2012, crossing the finish line on one of the hottest days in Boston Marathon history with Suzi alongside her.
